The Sauers' crews were kept busy during the recent snowstorm that dumped 18" of snow in the Montgomery County service area and 23" in the Philadelphia service area. Crews got an early start on the storm around 10:00 AM to prevent the storm from getting ahead and becoming too much to handle. A total of approximately 20 plow trucks, 5 loaders, and 20 shovelers were utilized to clear a total of approximately 20 commercial properties, which included Class A office space, industrial sites, retail stores, and apartment complexes. Everyone involved performed above par and made the storm a success. Most importantly, all customer locations were open for business in time with no disruption to tenants or employees. If you or anyone you know was not completely satisfied with their snow removal contractor, call Sauers, Inc. today to setup a consultation and learn what sets us apart from the competition.

Have you inspected your trees & shrubs since this recent major snow fall?
We finally recieved a decent amount of snow for the first time in the past few seasons. Take notice to your trees for broken limbs and stress cracks due to excessive weight of snow & ice. Also brush off any snow sitting on your shrubbery or low limbs that you can reach to reduce the weight of the heavy snow & ice if possible, especially evergreens that are more dense. If you have noticed anything of concern, feel free to contact Sauers, Inc. for a FREE evaluation.

Sauers, Inc. Removes Fallen Tree From House
With consistent wind conditions last week, our phones were ringing with fallen limbs & broken branches. A client in Huntingdon Valley called us at about 4:30 Thursday evening after a large tree had up-rooted and fell on his house. Our Arborist, Scott Russell, went to meet with the client and evaluate the situation within about an hour's notice. The tree was laying on the house and had caused some structural damage. The job would require the use of a crane to lift the tree off of the house to minimize further damage to the house and safety concerns for our crew.
Scott was able to reschedule the next days jobs and arrange for our crew to show up first thing the next morning. By noon time, our hardworking crew had the tree removed from the clients house and had the property cleaned up of all tree debris. Our client was extremely satisfied with our work and thankful for the fast service. This is just an example of how dedicated Sauers, Inc. is to serving our clients in a timely and professional manner.

Sauers, Inc. Saves Client's Hemlock Tree
Recently, I provided a courtesy follow up evaluation for an existing client in Willow Grove who mentioned some small pruning work that she was interested in having us provide a quote for. After looking at the small Crape Myrtle tree in her back yard to be pruned for proper structure, I explained that I would like to observe the condition of the other trees on her property while I was there.
Sure enough, the 80' Co Dominant Hemlock tree between her house & her neighbor's house not only showed signs at the main crotch of splitting, but about 50' up, one of the 2 trunks had a large crack that presented a hazardous situation. With an extensive crack or split, the tree could fail at that point with the next rain, wind, or snow event.
We pruned the tree to provide clearance from the houses & remove any dead-wood. We also performed selective pruning to thin the foliage & weight so wind, snow, & ice can pass through with less resistance.
After pruning the tree, we installed 3 Brace Rods to secure the existing crack 50' up & installed 1 Steel Support Cable to prevent the weak connection at the main crotch from splitting.
This job was in the price range of $800.00, but saved our client from spending $2,850.00 to remove this tree, as well as preserved a mature peice of nature for their property.
We cannot stress enough the importance of having our Arborists monitor your trees at least 1 time per season. Although you may not see anything that needs attention, our Arborists are trained to recognize signs and symptoms that if caught early, may save you a bigger headache later. Call us today to arrange for a FREE Evaluation and peice of mind for the Winter Season.

Sauers, Inc. completes large scale parking lot repair project
On November 21, the asphalt paving division of Sauers Tree & Landscape Service completed a large scale parking lot repair project for Toll Brothers, the nations largest home builder, headquartered in Horsham, PA. The project involved numerous challenges, such as the filling of all cracks in their 8 acres of parking lots. Additionally, all work had to be completed on a weekend, to avoid disturbance to employees and visitors. Project manager and company Vice President, Joe Sauers, states "The project was a success due to the teamwork of our employees and Toll Brothers facility managers. We sealed approximately 6,500 linear feet of cracks in one day, which is quite an accomplishment." This is not the first project Sauers, Inc. has performed for Toll Brothers, and surely will not be the last. Sauers, Inc. provides asphalt, concrete, tree care, landscape maintenance, and snow removal services to many satisfied commercial and residential clients.

Are Your Trees Safe?
Are your trees safe? Do you know what to look for and how to determine how safe they really are? Unless you've been educated in the field of Arboriculture, you're not likely to pick up on some of the more subtle signs that your trees are showing to indicate problems.
I recently attended a refresher course at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia. We discussed recent research, decay issues, formulas & techniques for evaluating hazardous trees, & the importance of maintaining written records of observations for ongoing monitoring. We also had time to walk the grounds of the Arboretum and perform practice evaluations on several different trees.
There is much more involved in determining the safety rating of a tree than most property owners realize. This is something that can greatly reduce the risk of property damage, the well being of passer-by's, & legal liabilities of the property owner. As a Certified Arborist, I take Hazard Evaluations very seriously and feel obligated to bring potential risk factors to my clients attention whenever I spot something on my own while visiting my client's properties.
If you notice cracks, splits, decay, or anything else on your trees that doesn't look normal, call us today for a FREE Tree Care Evaluation!

Sauers, Inc. Reaches Out to Help Roslyn Community & a Local Family
Earlier in the summer of 2009, Sauers, Inc. was requested to provide an estimate for tree & stump removal services at Faith Community Church in Roslyn, PA. We provided our services at a discounted price and saved the church about $3,000.00-$5,000.00 off of the going rates of the work scope.
Just recently, one of the leaders from the church had contacted me for more services at a private residence. He explained to me that a family who attends the church regularly and lives in the community was going through some difficult economic times, just like all of us lately. What really got me was that the daughter of the family has just been diagnosed with cancer & the increased medical expenses have made it extremely difficult to pay for any upkeep of the house & property.
The church was planning a way to help the family by donating their time to cleaning up around the house & the yard. They wanted to put a new fence up, but there was a tree stump in the way. They called me to take a look and provide a price to help them move forward with their project knowing that we had done an outstanding job for them at the church.
Although I had never met the homeowner or his family, they are part of the community that has helped our company develop and continue growing. With that in mind Sauers, Inc. decided to volunteer our time and services free of charge to help the family. Just knowing that we helped a family going through hard times is more rewarding than any dollar value sometimes.

Asphalt Paving Division is still serving our clients in November
With the cold weather quickly approaching, many clients believe it is already too cold and late in the season to complete their asphalt and concrete projects. Fortunately, it is still mild enough that it is not too cold or late in the season to perform this work. Our crews are currently in the process of repaving driveways, repairing and constructing concrete patios and sidewalks, along with a number of other related services. We normally provide these services into mid-December until the temperatures dip below 40-45 degrees. If your driveway or concrete currently is cracked, the best thing you can do is seal or repair those cracks before the winter arrives. When precipitation enters those cracks and freezes, it expands which causes additional cracking. Contact us before it is too late to discuss how repairing cracks in your pavement surfaces now can save you a lot of money in the Spring.
